Railing Systems
Four ways to hold the glass. We’ll help you pick the one that fits your space, look and budget.
Glass panels set into a low aluminum channel along the floor. No posts at all: the cleanest, most open look.
Decks · balconies · loftsGlass bolted to the side of the stairs or deck with round stainless standoffs, so the railing takes up no floor space.
Stairs · floor edgesStainless or aluminum posts with glass panels held by clamps. Strong, simple and the most budget-friendly glass railing.
Decks · long runsShort stainless posts clamp each panel at the bottom for a nearly frameless look without a floor channel.
Decks · patiosThe Glass
- Thick tempered safety glass, usually 1/2″
- Laminated glass for all-glass railings with no top rail: it stays in place even if a panel breaks
- Clear, low-iron (ultra-clear) or frosted
- A top cap or handrail where you want one
Hardware Finishes
- Brushed stainlessThe most popular; hides fingerprints.
- Polished stainlessBright, mirror-like finish.
- Matte blackBold and modern against the glass.
Tips From Our Glaziers
Any deck, stair or balcony more than 30 inches above the ground needs a guard. We build every railing to Minnesota code for height and strength.
Frameless railings anchor into solid structure. On a new deck, call us before the decking goes down so the framing is ready.
For an all-glass look, laminated glass keeps the railing standing even if a panel breaks.
Glass cleaner and a soft cloth. Rinse off pollen and road salt; stainless hardware wipes clean.
